  A Career at Groom

Founded in 1975, Groom Law Group is the largest employee benefits specialty firm in the country. Our attorneys handle a wide range of sophisticated benefits and tax matters for some of the nation's largest companies and non-profit organizations. Our varied practice offers attorneys the opportunity to resolve challenging benefits and tax questions in many forms - legislative, regulatory, corporate, and judicial.

Groom Law Group's team of attorneys includes:

The former head of the Labor Department's pension and welfare plan program
Former Benefits Tax Counsel at Treasury
Former general counsel to the PBGC
Former IRS, DOL and SEC counsels
Former counsels to some of the nation's largest multi-employer plans
Former congressional staff members

Our principals wrote many of the rules that govern our practice. Working with such skilled attorneys provides our associates with unparalleled learning and growth opportunities.

While many of our attorneys began their career in the government, some began with private firms, and others are "home grown" through our summer program. The attorneys we recruit have excellent academic backgrounds and an interest or experience in our specialized practice areas.

  Lateral Hires
We are always interested in talking with qualified attorneys at all levels, especially those who have backgrounds in our practice areas. Our attorneys are provided with exceptional opportunities to practice in a sophisticated environment and are exposed to all aspects of client representation. Our compensation and benefits package is competitive with that of larger Washington firms.

  Summer Associate Program
Our Summer Program is designed to provide the summer associates with a sense of our firm's culture and what it would be like to practice law as an associate of the firm. It is also designed to ensure that the summer associates receive substantive assignments to provide them with knowledge about our firm's practice.

Summer associates are assigned work by both partners and associates. The goal is to provide summer associates with substantive, varied work assignments. The firm's Recruiting and Associate Committees oversee summer associate assignments.

It is our goal to ensure that summer associates receive feedback on their work. Written evaluation forms are sent to assigning attorneys at the completion of a project. Attorneys are asked to complete the form as well as to provide feedback verbally in a one-on-one meeting. In-person evaluations are administered at the conclusion of the summer.

Summer associates are assigned an associate mentor to help guide them through their summer experience. Mentors are available to answer questions and help the summer associates learn their way around the firm.
