Sarah A. Zumwalt, an associate in the firm's litigation practice group, represents ERISA plan sponsors, fiduciaries, alleged fiduciaries and service providers in all manner of litigation pertaining to ERISA plans. In particular, Ms. Zumwalt represents defendants in stock drop, affiliated funds and 401(k) fee putative class action litigation. She also represents an actuarial service provider in arbitration with a defined benefit pension plan. In addition to her litigation practice, Ms. Zumwalt advises multiemployer plans with respect to funding issues, counseling them regarding the special rules that apply to plans in critical status.
Prior to joining Groom Law Group, Ms. Zumwalt practiced complex commercial litigation at a major Washington, D.C. law firm, representing clients facing litigation in federal and state courts, as well as those under investigation by federal agencies. In pro bono matters, Ms. Zumwalt has served indigent clients in death penalty and other criminal cases. In her free time, Ms. Zumwalt volunteers with Justice For Our Neighbors, a mission of the United Methodist Church that provides free immigration law services to those unable to afford a lawyer.
