Gary would have to admit that working with a group of smart people who all have ideas about what the firm should be doing is not always easy, but he credits Groom’s collegial atmosphere for making his job rewarding and personally satisfying. 

“The impact of what we do on ordinary people is one of the reasons we take our responsibility to our clients as seriously as we do,” says Gary. 

While taking his career and relationship with his clients seriously, it does not hurt that Gary, long ago, made a conscious decision to keep his work in perspective.  He reads history and biographies to bring a sense of context to his understanding of the world and bikes to work as often as possible.

“Riding along the C and O Canal helps me to appreciate the spectacular, natural beauty that surrounds us,” Gary says, ”and balances the mental challenges of work.  And getting passed by faster riders keeps me humble.”
