Hisham M. Amin

Associate

Hisham Amin is a naturalized citizen born on the Fourth of July whose ancestral home is the ancient African nation of Sudan.  An American patriotism that comes naturally to an immigrant born on Independence Day, and the multitude and magnitude of unforgiving problems in Sudan, have inspired Hisham to make a positive impact on the lives of his compatriots through a socially beneficial career.

Hisham's professional choices reflect his cultural roots and personal commitments.  Prior to entering law, Hisham was a 6th grade school teacher who subsequently followed a path into academia.  Hisham left teaching to harness the power of law as his vehicle for improving circumstances and conditions for others within and beyond his community.

Hisham stumbled into employee benefits law early in his legal career and it has remained the focus of his practice ever since.  To him, employee benefits are essentially a lifeline when a person's income is jeopardized by health, age or even marital or partnership circumstances.  With a passion for law and helping others, Hisham sees his work as potentially life changing for those it affects.  As it says on his Groom t-shirt, Hisham and his colleagues practice "everything benefits" because "everyone benefits."

One of Hisham's proudest achievements since his transition to the profession of law was his leadership as President of the Monumental City Bar Association, the oldest and arguably most distinguished professional association of African American attorneys and judges in Maryland.  In fact, the late Thurgood Marshall was an original founder of Monumental.  Hisham beams with pride for his role in the organization, although he realizes that it takes a lifetime, rather than any single endeavor, to make the type of impact he seeks.  Benefits law ultimately proved to be his avenue for impact.
