Dionne Benjamin's Snapshot of Groom

As a summer associate, Groom offered exactly what I was looking for. I wanted to do large-firm quality work, but with small-firm mentorship and opportunities to do meaningful work right away. Groom provides both. As a summer associate, I was able to meet everyone at the firm and develop relationships with lawyers ranging from new associates to senior partners. I was also able to meet with clients, work with partners, and participate in social events. At the end of the summer, I knew I wanted to join this firm because of its challenging work, interesting clients, and congenial atmosphere. At Groom, everyone is on a first name basis and there is a spirit of cooperation instead of competition. I look forward to developing an expertise in ERISA in this friendly and fast-paced environment.
A few things that I particularly like about Groom are: my ability to set my own schedule and work remotely if I can't make it to the office; the opportunities to travel, publish articles, attend seminars and client meetings; and the mentorship program for first year associates. At Groom there is a great support network for women, where women attorneys share everything from advice on projects to pictures of their new puppies. There are several events throughout the year that focus on equipping female associates with the tools necessary to eventually make partner, balance work/home life, etc. A few perks of working here are: getting to network with the firm's vast array of clients; catered breakfast on Fridays; lots of desserts throughout the week and a gym in the building to burn those dessert calories; a prime office location near the White House with phenomenal views of the District. We've even had an in-house concert where some partners were rockin' it out on their guitars…No, I'm not kidding :)
