Groom Volunteers at Capital Area Food Bank
May 27, 2010Fifteen Groom employees spent an evening at the Capital Area Food Bank (CAFB) to learn about the organization and to work as a team to package donated food for distribution to low-income individuals. The CAFB is the largest, nonprofit hunger and nutrition education resource in the Washington Metropolitan area distribute 23 million pounds of food to the hungry annually. The CAFB works to educate, empower and enlighten the community about the issues of hunger and nutrition. Their community-building initiatives, including Kids Cafe, Weekend Bag, Face Hunger, From the Ground Up, Sister Hook-Up, Produce for People, and the Brown Bag Program, educate the community about the importance of healthy diets and advocate for public policies that serve the interests of their constituencies.
