Groom Dial In: September 2009 Update on Health Care Reform

September 2009

Congress is back in session, and health care reform continues to be a top legislative priority of the Obama Administration and the Democratic leadership in Congress.  The three committees within the House of Representatives with jurisdiction over health care reform -- the Ways and Means Committee, the Education and Labor Committee, and the Energy and Commerce Committee -- each have "marked up" the so-called the "Tri-Committee" House bill.  However, a final vote in the House on a combined bill has not yet been scheduled.  On the Senate side, the Health, Education, Labor, and Pension (HELP) Committee passed its version of the legislation on July 15, 2009, which includes numerous amendments accepted during the month long mark-up of the HELP bill.  The Senate Finance Committee today announced that it would mark up its health care reform bill on September 21 and the bill will be based on Chairman Baucus's draft "Framework for Comprehensive Health Reform" that was released this week.  And, of course, President Obama will set out his priorities for health care reform before a joint session of Congress this evening.

Groom Law Group held a dial-in for our clients and friends of the firm on Monday, September 14th, at 2:00-3:15 PM EDT, to discuss these developments and highlight key provisions of these bills in the following areas:

  • Insurance Market Reform
  • Employer Responsibility
  • Exchange/Gateway
  • Public Plan Option
  • Individual Responsibility
  • Revenue Raisers

If you are interested in listening to a recording of the dial-in, please contact Negra Husikic at (202) 861-9388 or by email at nhusikic@groom.com.
