Grantor Trusts (Rabbi Trusts)

Many employers informally fund their nonqualified retirement plans through grantor trusts, which are often referred to as rabbi trusts.  These trusts largely provide protection for an executive's benefits in the event of a change in control of his employer.  We have particular expertise on the tax and Employee Retirement Income Security Act (ERISA) issues that employers and trustees face with these trusts.
