Alexander Ryan advises plan sponsors and plan service providers with respect to a range of fiduciary issues arising under ERISA and the Internal Revenue Code. Much of Alex’s practice focuses on navigating the intersection of ERISA, the Internal Revenue Code, and investments, including private equity, real estate, and hedge fund investments.

Alex regularly represents plans, plan sponsors and fiduciaries, investment funds, and investment fund managers in a variety of investment-related matters, including issues arising under the fiduciary and prohibited transaction provisions of ERISA related to the structure, design, and implementation of various investment products.

Alex also works frequently with large plan sponsors, service providers, and investment managers with respect to matters arising under the Department of Labor’s new “fiduciary investment advice” regulation. He regularly assists clients in structuring, designing, and implementing investment products across various asset classes, including private equity, real estate, hedge funds, commodity and real assets funds, and many others. Alex has substantial experience applying ERISA’s prohibited transaction rules to these types of investment products.
