Thomas Gigot, a retired Groom Principal, now provides consulting support to the firm. During his more than 32 years of practice, Tom has focused primarily on ERISA litigation and on plan funding and restructuring matters.  He also served as the firm’s own general counsel prior to his retirement.

Tom has substantial expertise defending plan fiduciaries and service providers from claims alleging breaches of fiduciary duty and professional negligence.  On the plan funding and restructuring side, Tom has worked to solve funding and related problems involving single and multiemployer defined benefit plans and those offering other post-employment benefits. In both contexts, Tom has represented parties in administrative proceedings and negotiations involving the Department of Labor, the IRS, and the Pension Benefit Guaranty Corporation.
