Larry Brett is an associate in Groom’s litigation practice group. His work focuses on representing employers in pension and benefits-related ERISA litigation, and seeing clients through the myriad of legal proceedings, pleadings, and discovery processes, among other functions.

Prior to joining Groom, Larry was an associate at an AmLaw 50 firm, where he was part of a broad-based litigation group. A general civil litigator, his work spanned the full gamut of clients and disputes, including document review and production, defending depositions, and preparing discovery requests, responses, and objections as well as pleadings and motions.

While in law school, Larry interned at the United States Department of Justice Tax Division. In this role, he researched and prepared recommendations on a variety of topics, including the application of federal sentencing enhancements and the good-faith defense to the willfulness mens rea in tax prosecutions; standards for determining competency to stand trial; as well as HIPAA and privacy rights impediments to grand jury subpoenas for criminal defendants’ medical records.

Thanks to a longstanding interest in finance and tax law, along with a desire to specialize his practice, Larry joined Groom. A strong writer with adept analytical thinking skills, he is a strategic problem-solver for clients.

Larry received his J.D. from Georgetown University Law Center, where he served as an Articles Editor for the Georgetown Journal of Legal Ethics.
