Taylor Waites joined Groom Law Group in 2024 as an associate in its fiduciary practice group.  She advises employee benefits plans and non-profits in a wide variety of ERISA, tax-exempt organization law, transactional, workforce development, and plan compliance matters.

Taylor works primarily with large, national apprenticeship and training organizations dealing with the intersection of ERISA, the Taft-Hartley Act, federal tax law, labor law, and workforce development issues.  Prior to joining Groom, she worked in government affairs for a large international labor organization where she focused on public policy and regulatory matters.

She began her legal career in New York, where she worked as an associate at a law firm representing retirement, welfare, and apprenticeship plans, labor organizations, and non-profits in ERISA, tax-exempt organization law, and labor and employment law.  She also worked as an attorney representing the New York State Department of Labor in administrative proceedings and settlement negotiations.

Taylor received her J.D. from Hofstra University, where she spent much of her time as a student attorney and research assistant with the school’s Community and Economic Development legal clinic and assisted non-profits with organizational and transactional matters, including entity formation, filing for tax exemption, and corporate compliance.
