Groom principal Ryan Temme was featured by Bloomberg Law in their article “White House Targets Insurers on Mental Health Law ‘Evasion’ (2)” where he broke down the prospective impacts that the Biden Administration’s plans to update mental health parity rules would have on health providers.

With regards to health plans continuing many of the prior authorization or step therapy requirements intended to ensure patients are receiving care at the right kind of facility for behavioral treatment, Temme said, “The new rule may make that difficult to achieve.”

According to Temme, “From an outpatient perspective, I think that’s where you’re likely to have the most impact because there may not be many plans that impose prior auth on two-thirds of their outpatient benefits.”
