Ben Koenigsfeld is an associate in Groom’s litigation practice group where he provides counsel to clients on ERISA and 401(k) management disputes, from initial discovery proceedings to execution of trial and case strategy.
A U.S. Military Academy at West Point graduate and a veteran, Ben initially served in the Army as a Cavalry Scout Officer for four years prior to law school. Following law school, he returned to the Army as a Judge Advocate and served as an Administrative Law Attorney, where he was second-in-command to a five-attorney section providing administrative guidance on a wide range of subjects to the Commanding General. These subjects included investigations into sexual harassment, improper use of funds, and allegations of toxic workplace behavior.
For the last five years of Ben’s military career, he served as a prosecutor, handling the investigation and prosecution of a wide array of cases including espionage and first-degree murder. But most of his time was dedicated to special victims cases, as he achieved numerous convictions for crimes against women and child exploitation. Finally, before joining Groom, he was a Trial Attorney for the U.S. Department of Justice’s Counterintelligence and Export Control Section, assisting U.S. Attorneys in the investigation and prosecution of espionage and sanctions cases. Along with increasing responsibility and visibility, Ben’s legal and military career has given him extensive, hands-on trial experience, which is foundational to his work at Groom.
