George Tsai is a principal in the firm’s Tax practice group. An employee benefits and executive compensation (“EBEC”) attorney, he focuses on executive, incentive, and equity compensation issues, including matters frequently involving Code Section 409A.

George counsels both public and private companies on the structuring, implementation, and operation of a variety of plans, including nonqualified deferred compensation plans, equity-based plans, synthetic and incentive compensation arrangements, qualified retirement plans (including ESOPs), and executive employment and separation agreements. He has also advised individual executives with respect to their executive employment arrangements.

George seeks to distill complex concepts and strategies down into actionable, “plain English” guidance. George has served or worked closely with a wide range of stakeholders, including executives, internal finance, HR and benefits professionals, CPAs, consultants, investment bankers, private equity professionals, non-EBEC attorneys, and in-house counsel. George strives to become a “go-to” partner thanks to his responsiveness, ability to communicate the right level of detail, and attentiveness to legal and commercial considerations.

Prior to joining Groom, George was a principal at both a large national firm and a highly respected regional firm in the Mountain West, and he began his career as an EBEC associate at a large international firm. George is based out of Colorado, where he lives with his wife and their two children.
